About me:
I have worked in a variety of host organisations as a counsellor for the 9 years, originally in general counselling, and later specialising in psychosexual and relationship counselling with individuals and couples. There are many issues affecting people's happiness these days, and some of the depression and anxiety is linked to relationship difficulties. So I work with people to unravel blocks, to look at patterns laid down over the years, and work towards achieving greater balance and harmony with self and others.
Qualifications:
Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling 2005
Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Counselling 2007.
Extensive experience of training in nonviolent communication.
I have worked as a counsellor and teacher of counselling in prisons, NHS GP surgeries and hospitals, and now in private practice.
Code of ethics:
I subscribe to the BACP Code of Ethics regarding my behaviour, responsibilities, and boundaries in my practice, and regarding matters of confidentiality.
Theoretical approaches:
PsychosynthesisRelated to transpersonal psychology, this type of psychotherapy focuses on three levels of the unconscious - lower, middle and higher (or transpersonal).
The aim is to help the client fuse the various parts of their personality into a more cohesive self. A great emphasis is placed on their spiritual dimension or higher self as a source of inspiration, wisdom, unconditional love and meaning in life - all within a universe that is seen as orderly and structured to promote the evolution of consciousness.
counselling draws on several theoretical models, including person-centred, psychodynamic, gestalt, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
Nonviolent Communication skillsSkills that are non-judgemental and emphasise compassion as the motivation for action rather than fear, guilt, shame, blame, coercion, threat or justification for punishment.
The process serves to focus on what we and others are observing separate from our interpretations and judgments, to connect our thoughts and feelings to underlying human needs/values (e.g. protection, support, love), and to be clear about what we would like towards meeting those needs. These skills give the ability to translate from a language of criticism, blame, and demand into a language of human needs. are useful as a tool for mediation and connection where conflict exists.
