About me:
I am a co-founder and a Principal Therapist at a small counselling service called BetterMind. We are an ethical service committed to providing affordable psychotherapy to the community. I offer long-term and short term face-to-face counselling in our comfortable Shoreditch consulting room.
Qualifications:
I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology, a Masters in Psychological Counselling and am currently completing a research project that leads to a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings within the NHS and the voluntary sector. My experience includes work in Primary Care, Child & Adolescent Mental Health, Adult Mental Health and Substance Abuse teams.

Theoretical approaches:
Cognitive Behavioural TherapyFocuses on understanding how our thoughts or beliefs effect our behaviour and the way we feel. ;
Person Centred TherapyThis approach says we're born with the ability to reach our full potential, but our early experiences may alienate us from our true self.
The therapist seeks to be open and willing to express their own identity without hiding behind expertise or degrees. They also provide other conditions needed for the client's growth:
1) Unconditional positive regard (acceptance and appreciation of the client).
2) Empathic understanding (seeing things through the client's eyes). ;
Psychodynamic CounsellingPsychodynamic counselling focuses on unconscious processes and is derived from the work of Freud and later psychoanalytic theorists.
It uses the therapeutic relationship to gain insight into unconscious relationship patterns that have evolved since childhood. Memories and other evidence of early relationships are used to make sense of current concerns. Change occurs as clients become more aware of the influence of the unconscious (e.g. defence mechanisms, instincts and rules for life) on their behaviour. ;
Integrative PsychotherapyIntegrating knowledge and skills from different therapies: integrating the core values and assumptions underlying different approaches to psychotherapy into a meaningful whole that fuses with the psychotherapist's own personal values.
